On Saturday 18th March four of us, Imogen, Annice, Helena and Miriam went to Avenue St Andrews URC to join in the Wessex Youth Synod Day. During the morning we listened to a talk given by Jim Davies from the Children’s Society. We were encouraged to think about our own churches and how we can use our individual gifts to serve God. We discussed how much freedom we have to choose our own path in life and how much we are guided by our parents and other adults. We were asked to make up a sentence to sum up what we would like to say to adults about how we felt. It was really hard. The group that Imogen and Annice were in finally agreed on,
“You’re not gonna win, but you can listen.”
We wanted to say that adults can’t make us lead our lives in a particular way; we need to make our own way in life but adults should listen to our ideas and opinions.
In the afternoon we were sent to West Quay, again in groups, to take pictures beginning with every letter in the alphabet. We only had an hour and some letters were tricky. Fortunately we found an “X” factor sign, and we also photographed a Thomas the tank Engine ride! The best photograph for each letter is to be produced in a book later in the year.
It was a fun day, we enjoyed meeting up again with young people we’ve met at other Synod events. We can’t wait for Summer Camp……..
